WAR OF 1812 VETERANS BURIED IN MICHIGAN
The Michigan State Society Daughters of 1812 worked for over 10 years trying to located and verify all War of 1812 Veterans buried in our state. Michigan has 83 counties and to date we have located War of 1812 Veterans buried in 48 of those counties. Thank you to all our members who worked so hard on the project. This will be an ongoing project as we continue to locate new veterans and their burial locations.
This project began over 10 years ago and involved countless hours of research and trips to cemeteries. The goal was to locate the burial location, photograph the headstone if they have one and to verify their service during the War of 1812. We started with a book written and published in 1962 “Soldiers of the War of 1812 Who Died in Michigan” by Alice Turner Miller. We give special thanks to her for putting this book out. Although there were many errors, this book was invaluable to us as we did our research.
